WAREG held its 13th General Assembly in Riga, Latvia on the 10th of October 2017 with the participation of 42 water regulatory professionals from 21 countries.

In the week between August 27 up to September 1st, Stockholm was host to the World Water Week event, bringing together over 3000 water professionals from 133 countries. Among hundreds of presentations, seminars, debates and table discussions, spanning across the seven days of the event, we at WAREG would like to make note of the seminar Governance of water and waste: a key to sustainable development?

In preparation for the 8th World Water Forum to be held in Brasilia, Brazil (2018), an online platform has been opened where people from around the world can share ideas, experiences and solutions to improve water management. Everybody, even non-experts can suggest water issues to be discussed at the world’s largest water event and influence the Forum discussions.

A general report on the issue of affordability was issued by WAREG on 10 March 2017. The report elaborated by WAREG provides a description of some approaches used in 17 WAREG Members’ countries to ensure the affordability of water and sewerage charges. It also provides a general overview of the governance frameworks and tools used in those countries. The main objective of this paper is to outline existing practices and to identify possible common patterns in regulatory mechanisms to ensure affordability of water services.
